  • Paddington visits Stanton

    Published 28/12/21

The children of Darling and Amazon Class could not believe their eyes when Paddington Bear visited their little village primary school all the way from London.

Paddington told the children all about his train journey from London to Chippenham and how he took a slow walk from the station, taking in all the wonderful sights. He told the children a little about himself, his love for marmalade sandwiches and reading and his time in Peru.

Paddington then shared a story with the children, followed by an active dance with Paddington session, where he showed his very best moves.

The children were then presented with a gift from Paddington before he returned to his home with the Brown family. We had an afternoon filled with beary good fun!

If you'd like to have a little dance along at home to the Paddington song, follow this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88iW9GBBVhs

  • London Day!

    Published 16/11/21

Today has been 'London Day' and what a day we've had!

We may not have made it to London but today has certainly been the closest thing to being in our capital city itself.

Wearing our red, white and blue, we have; stepped into a London map, giving each other directions to reach famous landmarks; followed Aunt Lucy's recipe and weighed out ingredients to make Paddington's Orange Marmalade Cakes. We've worked as a team to read clues on our London Treasure Hunt, finding the treasure in Paddington's boots; learnt and sang London themed songs; shared London stories and this afternoon we've made pop-up maps of London.

We hope you enjoy our photographs.

    Published 12/11/21

This week the children have been looking at very special Paddington Bear 50 pence pieces. Then we used a watercolour technique to paint our own Paddington coins. The children are very proud of their 50 pence piece gallery. Can you spot the famous London landmarks on the coins?

  • A mystery suitcase and marmalade sandwiches

    Published 01/11/21

Amazon Class have had a wonderful day immersed in their new topic, 'We're Off to London!'

The children came skipping in to school this morning, proudly clutching their London buses, telephone boxes and taxis, which are now adorning our windowsills and London board. A huge well done for your super half term creations, Amazon Class!

When we came into school this morning, we spotted an unusual suitcase that had been left in the classroom.

During our English lesson, we made predictions about who it might belong to by looking carefully at the travel stickers covering the suitcase. We were eager to look inside and once we had solved the problem of opening the lock, we were surprised to find; red wellington boots, a map of London, carefully wrapped marmalade sandwiches, a jar of orange marmalade, a Union Flag and a tag.

Using our best detective skills, we decided that we think this suitcase may belong to Paddington Bear himself!

We can't wait to see what tomorrow holds...

  • The Great Fire of London

    Published 30/10/21

This term, we have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the Great Fire of London in 1666, learning lots of interesting facts about what life was like in London at this time and why this was the biggest fire in the United Kingdom.

We are very proud of our display which shows our Tudor houses standing alongside the River Thames made by the children, photographs of our Pudding Lane baking, extracts of writing to be proud of and an array of wonderful vocabulary that we have been learning and using in our writing this term. You might even spot Boxton the rat just below the river edge!

Next term we look forward to contrasting what London is like now and how our capital city differs to what London was like in 1666.

    Roll on Term 2!

  • Moving on with Maths

    Published 30/10/21

During Term 1, the children in Year 1 have been enjoying the increased challenge of Year 1 maths. We have been doing lots of problem solving this term, exploring different methods for addition and subtraction and using new resources and maths models.

We have loved using the Maths No Problem scheme and were very excited to have our very first Maths No Problem workbook.
