  • Whole School Trip to REME museum

    Published 08/11/23

Today the whole school had a fun and interactive day at the REME Museum in Lyneham. Each class took part in a STEM challenge - to work as a team and either create a moving vehicle that would move a tank or explore the same forces at work in propulsion that the Royal Engineers used to power the Bloodhound LSR, which set new land speed records. The children also had time to look around the museum, learn about life in the Royal Air Force, some of the missions that soldiers embarked on, the equipment and vehicles they used, and the engineering feats behind the vehicles and machinery. The weather was very kind to us and the children thoroughly enjoyed challenging themselves on the assault course, guided by Army soldiers. Thank you to all at the REME Museum and for the parent volunteers who accompanied us - without you, we couldn't put these wonderful trips together.

It has been a delight to meet with the new librarians this term and welcome them to their new home- the library! Our librarians have been tasked to collate ideas for how we can make reading even more irresistible at Stanton School, together with any new book we could purchase for the library. We shall meet again after half term to make a plan of action for all things reading. Watch this space!

  • Poetry Off By Heart for National Poetry Month

    Published 06/10/23

We are very excited to announce the return of our annual Poetry Off By Heart competition to celebrate National Poetry month during October.

This year, our poetry theme is 'All Things School' and hopefully you have now accessed the list of chosen poems emailed to you this week. You can also find our poetry list available to download below.

We would like every child to choose a poem from this list to practise performing and learning off by heart, for Monday 16th October, when the children will have the opportunity to perform their chosen poem to their class. We shall then choose finalists to perform their poem again to the rest of the school.

Performance poetry can be a really fun and exciting way for children to engage with poetry. This year's poems have been chosen with this in mind and are ordered by challenge to help you support your child to choose the best poem for them to learn.

They don't have to learn all of the poem; it could just be a verse or whatever they feel able to do.

Children have been exploring how to perform different poetry in class and should therefore be ready to have a go!

We look forward to seeing the children's off by heart performances!

    Published 26/09/23

Last week we celebrated Roald Dahl’s birthday with a Roald Dahl themed assembly and activities happening in our classes, together with Roald Dahl stories and books in our reading areas. We found Roald Dahl on our school timeline to find out that he was born in 1916.

Did you know, the first children’s book Roald Dahl wrote was James and the Giant Peach? 🍑

Here we share some of our lovely learning with you.

  • Incredible You!

    Published 26/09/23

During our first week back to school, the whole school explored the book ’Incredible You’ by Rhys Brisenden. This wonderful book delves into all the amazing things that we can do and how this makes each and every one of us incredible!

Upon a cloud, every child then recorded what makes them incredible, from riding a bike without stabilisers to being a kind friend and everything inbetween!

We used peg dolls to make our incredible selves and proudly displayed these around our world to remind ourselves throughout this year that we are all INCREDIBLE!
