School Closure
At Stanton we follow the emergency protocols advised by Wiltshire County Council. We aim to keep the school open in all but the most severe weather conditions. However there are times when it becomes impossible to maintain a safe provision for children. In these circumstances we take the following considerations into account:
- Can children and staff get safely to school?
- Is the school site safe for children and staff?
- What is the advice of the Police and the Local Authority?
I think it would be helpful to share with you how Stanton School responds to exceptionally cold conditions and ways in which you can support us in doing this.
First, on very cold mornings we begin work by opening the school early, checking the heating and gritting the main paths and steps.
We encourage children, parents and visitors to keep to the treated pathways and avoid any areas in the school that are untreated.
If it is necessary to close the school due to adverse weather conditions, notice will be given on local radio; BBC Wiltshire and HeartFM. We use the Parent Pay text messaging and email system to inform parents. The strapline on our Website will be amended to read
“School Closed (DATE) due to severe weather”.
Please avoid telephoning the school which is likely to be very busy on these occasions. Please, also, do not rely on “word of mouth”!
If we are not listed as closed on the radio, website and you have received no text message or email from us, we will be open!
