The Bayeux Tapestry
The Normans are coming!
This week in Amazon Class we have been learning about the Normans. In 1066 Duke William of Normandy defeated King Harold at the Battle of Hastings. Harold had organised his army on the higher ground, however when the Normans started to run away the English followed and then were defeated by the larger Norman army.
The whole time from Edward the Confessor's death to William defeating Harold at Hastings was recorded on the Bayeux Tapestry. There is some thought that the tapestry was made in England and not France. More can be found out about the tapestry at http://www.bayeuxtapestry.org.uk
Amazon has started to draw (embroidery would take too long!) their own version of the tapestry.
