Well done to our Key Stage 2 children for their outstanding performance of Rock Bottom! Their talent and hard work brought the characters to life, delivering a show full of unforgettable moments.
Our Year 6 leavers had a fantastic day at Grittleton Adventures, climbing Jacob’s Ladder, body zorbing and completing the escape room in a new record time. It was a wonderful way to celebrate fun, friendship and create lasting memories.
Year 6 were thrilled to receive their ‘Leavers Hoodies’, although they aren’t quite ready to leave us yet. This marks the start of many special rituals as they prepare for the next stage in their learning.
A huge thank you to FOSS for their contribution.
This term the children in Year 5 & 6 have been thoroughly engaged in a collection of Grimm Tales, adapted by Philip Pullman. From the quests and romance of classics such as 'Rapunzel' and 'Cinderella' to the danger and wit of such lesser-known tales, 'The Three Snake Leaves' and the class favourite ‘Hans-my-Hedgehog’, the children have enjoyed reading and re-reading these tales full of wicked wives, brave children and villainous kings.
Through the sequence of learning, the children began by orally telling their own story using props, followed by analysis of the language, characterisation and common story structure across many of the tales. They made comparisons between many versions of the same story and were definitely keener on the ‘Grimm versions’.
Finally, the children wrote their own Grimm tale, planning for a balance of dialogue and narrative to advance the action quickly. Full of gruesome deaths and lessons to be learnt, they created a superb collection of tales.
In English we have been reading extracts from Anne Frank. We learnt about her diary, life and legacy. We then created posters about what we discovered, organising them into different areas with pictures and quotes from her diary.
